movies I have watched these past few months

Sunshine Cleaning- it wasn't all I expected it to be. Emily blunt and Amy adams had good screen chemistry. It was easy to tell that they probably get along well. Alan Arkin could have been used better.

Napoleon Dynamite- It had its moments. If it was meant to be ironic, may be it got its point across. I think I didn't really understand most things because I did not grow up here. But it was a nicely told under-dog story without the unrealistic transformation from underdog to topdog or some sort of vindication that was long overdue. It had its victories that were perhaps not great victories when you look at the big picture.

Pestonjee- Shabana Azmi who I still adore was thoroughly wasted. Her character was annoying almost. A very strange film. It was whimsical, the only thing it was, was a window into the Parsi culture.

Ek Doctor Ki Maut- It has no glamour whatsoever, hyper-realistic and a nice story told simply.

Luck by Chance-Films like this one are evidence that Indian Cinema is really evolving. The industry takes a self-reflective look at itself. All issues were dealt with beautifully. Konkona Sen was lovely, I loved that her character decided to stand up for herself instead of succumbing to fantasies. Finally, a female character in a Hindi film whose only purpose was not to support the male lead!

Oye Lucky Lucky Oye- Abhay Deol was charming as a..well charming con artist. It had its funny moments and was entertaining.

I have been trying to watch La Strada forever now, Hopefully I will watch it tonight. I wish I had some wine to drink.

to you... and hopefully me

flashing eyes, perfectly set teeth,
a nose drawn with a ruler-
articulate with your mouth,
expressive with your eyes,
powerful with your walk,
confident in your couture.

so comfortable with yourself,
so comfortable with the truth,
living the life you wanted,
making the most of it.
everytime you raise your brow,
a little sadness lingers now.
makes me think of what you hide,
because there is no one by your side?

high heels and coiffed hair,
cursing with your arrogant air.
so together, so strong,
yet so easy to be wronged.

I see you but I am me,
completely without grace.
so unfinished, so naive
so not ready for the world,
no clue, not a trace.
I see me as I see you
I see me walk the halls-
my high heels, my make-up,
my suit, my know-how.

But I am here now today
in my daily life, mundane.
my future you looks bleak,
my attempts to fix it are weak.
